Bo Lee is a freelance flutist and teacher in Augusta, Georgia and performs with the Rock Hill Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, she was a 2018 Kenan Fellow at Lincoln Center Education (LCE) in New York City. While a Kenan Fellow, Bo collaborated with theater artist Maggie Gayford to present Magic Pearl: a shadow puppet play with new music by Christopher Vu, which premiered at LCE on December 14, 2018. This project has resulted in the formation of Pinwheel, a collective of musicians and theatre artists. In 2019, Pinwheel created an entirely auditory experience of Magic Pearl and was played as part of the Atlanta Fringe Festival.
In 2017, she was named the second prizewinner of the James Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition (Boston, MA) as well as the South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competition. Bo has performed in masterclasses for flutists such as Jeanne Baxtresser, Denis Bouriakov, Sir James Galway, Michael Hasel, Lorna McGhee, Emmanuel Pahud, Gary Schocker, Mimi Stillman, and Keith Underwood, among others. She has performed solo and chamber recitals throughout New England and across the southeast region of the country. She has also performed in Canada, Luxembourg, and Spain. While living in North Carolina, Bo's students were successful in district and All-State auditions, and were accepted into prestigious programs such as the Governor's School and the high school division of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
She made her Jordan Hall recital debut in May 2018 with her trio, OWL riot, which was named a 2017-2018 NEC Honors Ensemble. As a member of OWL riot, she received coaching from the John Heiss, Kristopher Tong and Mai Motobuchi of the Borromeo String Quartet, and also was coached on Sofia Gubaidulina's Garten von Freuden und Traurigkeiten by the composer herself.
